what i've learned from never being satisfied
to me, past present and future
When I was a kid I thought I was broken.
I could never stay dedicated to a single activity.
I fell in love with bodies of water.
So my parents enrolled me in swim lessons.
Go to practice. Compete. Win medals. Repeat.
The rhythm started to feel boring. I could feel myself grow restless.
I was an energetic child. I could never stop moving.
So my parents enrolled me in dance.
Weeknights were dedicated to the studio.
Jazz. Tap. Hip hop. Ballet.
A never ending revolving door of new rhythms, music, and styles.
Soon enough the same boredom crept in.
Eventually I would rotate my interests.
Dance in the summer time. Swimming in fall and winter.
My peers who showed up consistently all year round advanced in their skills.
Meanwhile I fought to remember the basics of what I had mastered the previous season.
“You can never make up your mind on what you want to do. You change your mind every second”, said mom.
With time, I thought I’d find my calling.
But here I am.
Decades later and I’ve quit my job.
Years of work. A fruitful career in tech. Left behind.
Still unsure why I can’t commit to something all-year round. Year after year.
My newfound freedom pulls me in different directions.
Too many curiosities to satiate.
Should I start my own business? Create content? Pursue freelance?
Let’s learn more about AI, cannabis, health & wellness.
On top of that, sign up for a triathlon. Maybe two.
The curse of never finding your calling?
Never satisfied. Always looking, reaching, looking past what’s in front of you.
The blessing?
You’ll always stay curious.
Collecting tools for your toolbox.
Gathering intel. Experiences. People.
Evolving yourself into someone you never knew you could be.
It’s rewarding in ways you can’t see yet.
But maybe that’s the whole point.
An expansive life knows no bounds.
You cannot anticipate the horizon.
Like the stars in the universe, the depths of the ocean, the sky on a cloudless day.
It’s infinite.
Why are we so quick to accept that the concept of infinity can exist in mathematics.
When the existence of humans have been around far longer?
Human curiosity was meant to be infinite.
You’re not broken, my dear.
You’re fighting to keep your spirit alive. Stimulated. Excited.
In a world that expects you to box yourself up and choose one.
You choose them all.
